Το CAT PROJECT παρουσιάζει, στα πλαίσια του PLATFORMS PROJECT 2023, στην Τεχνόπολη του Δήμου Αθηναίων, το έργο της Τζένης Μπαμπαλή, ΠΩΣ ΤΟ ΜΑΥΡΟ ΓΙΝΕΤΑΙ ΧΡΩΜΑ.

  Η υλοποίηση αυτού του έργου ξεκίνησε τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2022 και αφορμή ήταν ο θάνατος-δολοφονία της Ιρανής MAHSA AMINI, μετά τη σύλληψή της από της αστυνομία ηθών του Ιράν, επειδή η μαντήλα που φόραγε δεν κάλυπτε εντελώς τα μαλλιά της.

  Η αντίδραση και η αγανάκτηση των Ιρανών άμεσα δημιούργησε ένα κύμα κοινωνικής αναταραχής, με τραγικές συνέπειες. Συλλήψεις θάνατοι και εκτελέσεις ήταν η απάντηση του καθεστώτος.

  Η δυσαρέσκεια για τα συμβάντα, αλλά και η αδικία προς τις γυναίκες που υποχρεώνονται να κρύβονται πίσω από μια μαντήλα και να μην έχουν την ελευθερία και το δικαίωμα της επιλογής, πήρε έκταση σχεδόν σ’ όλη την διεθνή κοινότητα.

  Εμπνεόμενη η εικαστικός απ αυτά τα γεγονότα αλλά και λόγω του φαινομένου της έξαρσης της έμφυλης βίας, με οποία μορφή εκφράζεται αυτή, αποφάσισε να ξεκινήσει ένα διαδραστικό και συμμετοχικό έργο για τη μεγιστοποίηση της ευαισθησίας του κόσμου, με κεντρικό μοτίβο τη μαντήλα.

   Έγινε κάλεσμα να φέρει ο κόσμος μαντήλια και να τα κρεμάσει, σε δημόσιο χώρο, στη Λάρισα, σαν ένδειξη διαμαρτυρίας προς κάθε γυναίκα και γενικότερα κάθε άνθρωπο που στερείτε ελευθεριών και κακοποιείται. Οι μαντήλες, περίπου 300, αφού συγκεντρώθηκαν, χρησιμοποιήθηκαν για τη δημιουργία του έργου.

  Το αποτέλεσμα αυτής της συνέργειας, της εικαστικού και του κόσμου που συμμετείχε, ήταν ένα γιγάντιο πανό, μεγέθους 5 μέτρα επί 2,65, ραμμένο με κομμάτια από τις μαντήλες που συγκεντρώθηκαν σε διάστημα 3 εβδομάδων.

   Η κατασκευή υλοποιήθηκε σε χώρους της Δημοτικής Πινακοθήκης Λάρισας από την εικαστικό και την ευγενή συμμετοχή δέκα ακόμα γυναικών που δούλεψαν εθελοντικά και εκτέθηκε στη Δ. Π.Λάρισας  Μουσείο Κατσίγρα, στις 19 Μαρτίου 2023.

 Με την παρουσίαση του έργου στο PLATFORMS PROJECT 2023  δίνεται η δυνατότητα στους επισκέπτες  να αφουγκραστούν τη δυναμική του για να λειτουργήσει διαδραστικά, προσδοκώντας στη συμμετοχή τους για την εξέλιξη του και τη μετουσίωση του σε μια νέα πρόταση-έργο.

As part of the PLATFORMS PROJECT 2023, in the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens, CAT project presents the work of Jenny Bampali, Turning Black Into Colour.

The implementation of this project began in September 2022 and was triggered by the death-murder of Iranian Mahsa Amini, after she was arrested by Iran's moral police because the headscarf she was wearing did not completely cover her hair.

The reaction and indignation of the Iranians immediately created a wave of social unrest, with tragic consequences. Arrests, deaths and executions were the regime's response.

Dissatisfaction with the events, but also the injustice towards women who are forced to hide behind a headscarf and do not have the freedom and the right to choose, spread throughout almost the entire international community.

Inspired by these events but also due to the phenomenon of the escalation of gender violence, in   whatever form it is expressed, the artist decided to start an interactive and participatory project to maximize the sensitivity of the public, with the central motif of the headscarf and what this piece of  clothing means for the Islamic world.

A call was appealed for people to bring headscarves and hang them, in a public place, in Larissa, as a sign of protest to every woman and in general every human being who is deprived of freedoms and being abused. The scarves, about 300, after being collected, were used to create the work.

The result of this synergy, of the artist and the public involved, was a giant banner, measuring 5x2.65 meters, sewn with pieces of the scarves collected over a period of 3 weeks.

The artist and a group of ten women that nobly volunteered, worked in a space that was offered in the premisses of the Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa, where finally the completed installation of the work Turning Black Into Colour, was exhibited, on March 19, 2023.

By presenting the project at PLATFORMS PROJECT 2023, the artist and CAT project expect to approach a larger audience, which will have the opportunity to interact with the project, to be informed about the continuation of this action and to interact with the installation, thus contributing to its evolution and transformation into a possible new proposal-project.
