The Platforms project will be presented at Technopolis City of Athens with a multifaceted parallel programme of talks and workshops, videos, children's programmes, performances and parties.

Platforms Project 2023 - Independent Art Fair will be presented this year, from 26 to 29 October 2023 at the Technopolis City of Athens (100 Pireos Street, Athens 118 54, Gazi) with workshops, performances, speeches and talks by the participating groups. This year it will be presented in a central space to facilitate access and communication of its work.
The project is directed by Artemis Potamianou and Michalis Argyrou. Artemis Potamianou is the artistic curator of Platforms Project 2023.

Platforms Project is an international exhibition which has always aimed to present the independent art scene through artists’ group initiatives. The Platforms Project contributes continuously to the shared search for solutions to contemporary questions of art and the indicative mapping of artistic activity as it is produced today in the framework of group initiatives of young artists in the international art environment.

This year's Platforms Project features platforms from 24 countries (Greece, Cyprus, USA, Canada, Netherlands, France, UK, Lebanon, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Austria, Belgium, Australia, China, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Russia, Brazil, Switzerland). Hundreds of applications were received following an open online call.

The Platforms Project 2023 will involve 56 art platforms with over 900 artists, extending the global network that has been built up and communicated through the Platforms Project over the last ten years:

During the exhibition of the Platforms Project 2023, a parallel program of talks, performances and workshops will take place. The Platforms Project is not an impersonal event but an artistic community full of energy and freshness, giving time and space to an alternative art that could not be expressed anywhere else.

The 40 performances will be presented by the participating platforms in the exhibition space and in the Central Courtyard.

A very important part of the Platforms Project is the KIDS LAB educational programme for children aged 4-16 years old.

Pow Wow's educational programme "How do you feel today?" is designed for children and beyond. It is a collective work based on the work of Swedish artist Jeppe Hein |  Your Journey. The final result will be an interactive large scale mural-collage created with the active participation of the public (children). Children will be asked to draw a person in relation to their feelings at that particular moment, with an emphasis on the moment, the now, the present. The final mural - a collage - aims to showcase the children's intense creativity, free expression and sincerity.

An integral part of the Platforms Project is the parallel programme Open Studios, where for the sixth consecutive year, 8 workshops of the Athens School of Fine Arts will present the work of students and specially designed projects in the open spaces of the Upper Courtyard of the Technopolis City of Athens.

The Platforms Project is the only fair to offer a programme of guided tours to bring contemporary art closer to the public and to meet the artists. The meeting point for the tours is at the entrance of Technopolis City of Athens. (Tour dates and times: Friday 27, Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 October 2023: 14:00, 16:00, 19:00).

This year, for the first time, the Platforms Project will host platform groups from theatre, music, architecture and design, extending the international network that has already been established over the last 10 years and bringing them into synergy with the visual arts.

Music:

Nepenthe presents a musical journey exploring the evolution of the electronic music scene through the artists - DJs - who have shaped it from the 80s to today. A different interactive experience every day, giving the audience the chance to be a DJ for a day! Thursday 26/10, Friday 27/10, Saturday 28/10 18:00-23:00. This journey will be completed with a musical party episode, where DJs from various backgrounds and musical influences of the house scene will invite the entire audience to have fun together, closing the Platform Project on Sunday 29/10/23, from 6:00 – to 00:00 pm, in the Central Courtyard of the Technopolis City of Athens.

Performances - Theatre performances:
The Ginger Creepers Theatre Band (Grigoris Hatzakis - Christos Kapenis) presents the alternative theatrical concert JINX, a performance inspired by the parable of the Dead Brother.

The performing arts group galleria pemuvia presents the performance Anonymous, directed by Lysandros Spetsieris, in conversation with the interactive VR world of sculptor Nikos Papadopoulos at the New Retorts building on Friday 27/10 and Saturday 28/10 at 21:30. Inspired by the Octana of Andreas Embirikos.

The performance group Re-transform will present an interactive performance on the theme of transforming from one state to another at Gasholder 1 – Auditorium “Miltiadis Evert” , on Friday 27 October at 20:30 - 21:30 and on Saturday 28 October at 21:00 – 22:00.

The Art March to Prespes will activate a silent nomadic walking body of seven people on Saturday 28th October. It will follow a path of chance to discover art in the everyday lived and contrasted space.

Brief history:

The Platforms Project has been presented for the tenth consecutive year since 2013, and it is an annual international meeting of artist groups-platforms. It is an international exhibition, which aims to map how art collectives work, and create channels of communication and cooperation with other countries. In the context of the Platforms Project from 2013 to 2022, 354  platforms were presented from 41 countries (Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Switzerland, England, Germany, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Netherlands, Canada, South Zealand, Finland, France, Russia, Serbia, Kosovo, USA, Ukraine, Argentina, Turkey, Benin, Spain, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Yemen, Iran, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ethiopia, Denmark, Ukraine, Australia and Panama) with a total of more than 7.200 artists.
